10 Steps to Jailbreak iOS 4.0.2 on iPhone 3Gs Using PwnageTool
1- Download, install, and run iTunes, then backup your data
2- Download unofficial PwnageTool build (link below)
3- Download Apple iOS 4.0.2
4- Move iOS 4.0.2 firmware file and PwnageTool to Desktop
5- Start PwnageTool and select your device (iPhone3Gs), then click the [blue] arrow button
6- PwnageTool will now automatically detect the correct firmware for your device. Click on [No] when PwnageTool asks you “Do you have an iPhone contract that would activate normally through iTunes?”. Clicking on [Yes] will update your baseband to the latest version. Click on [Yes] only if you are on an officially supported carrier like AT&T.
7- Next PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone 3Gs which will be jailbroken.
8- Once the custom .ipsw file is created, you will see a confirmation message “ihaz Success”.
9- Now restore your iPhone to the custom firmware 4.0.2 that you just cooked using PwnageTool. To do this:
Click on your phone icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left [alt] button on the Mac keyboard and then click on [Restore] – Not [Update] or [Check for Update] – button in the iTunes and then release the [alt] button. Select the required custom .ipsw file and click on [Open].
10.a- PwnageTool will now do the rest of jailbreaking process. Sit tight.
10.b- Walla..once the process done, your iPhone is now jailbroken.
So now you have iPhone 3Gs iOS 4.0.2 jailbroken so you can now unlock it using UltraSn0w 1.1-1 and install special iPhone apps for jailbroken iPhone only (via Cydia).
Note: As it is the unofficial release of PwnageTool, it may contains unknown bugs (use with your own risk). However, if your iPhone 3Gs is running iOS 4.0.1 or 4.0 and have a plan to jailbreak it, then do not update to iOS 4.0.2. It is easier (or easiest) to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 with just one-slide using JailbreakMe 2.0 Star (userland jailbreak).
